Teaching and Professional Learning
ASCC teaching staff are carefully selected from an extensive list of applicants. All of them should have years of teaching experience gained in their home countries or regions and in Australia, with relevant qualifications. They mainly come from Mainland China and we also welcome experienced and qualified teachers from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore.
The School organises pre-service and in-service training of the staff. Each year, the school has at least two professional learning days, one in January and the other in June. We also either sends teachers to China or join the touring training lectures in Australia organised by Hanban. All probationary, relief and regular teachers must be trained before teaching in class.
ASCC is a TQI (Teachers Quality Institute) recognised Teachers Professional Learning Program provider. Registered teachers who pariticatd the TQI approved Teachers Professional Learning Programs organised by ASCC may use the hours of learning for the purpose of annual renewal their registration with TQI*.
*Note: TQI is the authority established under the teacher quality legislation in 2010. It is part of the governemnt commitment to improving teacher quality and standard. Since 2010-11, all teachers in ACT mainstream schools are required to be registered and to renew their registration each year with TQI. The renewal requires minimum of 20 hours professional learning in the previous year and at least 5 hours to be TQI approved programs.
