The SCSA/ ASCC (Australia Standard Chinese School/ the Australian School of Contemporary Chinese) held a teachers conference and TQI (Teachers Quality Institute) accredited training program in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) on Sunday, 25 June 2017 for all the staff, including class teachers, relief teachers, teachers-in-training and management personnel nearly 50 people.
The meeting was facilitated by Ms Tingting Zhang, a Vice-Principal of the ASCC. The Principal, Dr Fuxin Li, talked on the new curriculum, international exchange, school open day, Chinese culture day and Chinese teacher certificate training etc for the second half of 2017.
Vice-Principal Ms Xiaohui Zhang talked about teachers’ lesson planning, especially on preparing for class teaching and lesson plans. Some good example of the senior teachers’ lesson plans were shown and illustrated for everyone to share and reference. A useful link was provided for new teachers (www.wenku1.com/list/备课的基本要求/).
The Assistant Principal Ms Chen Chu talked about this year’s Study Tours of Australian Students organized by ASCC: “Fujian trip” and ” Jilin trip “. Ms Yunyan Bao, the Chinese volunteer teacher sent by the Confucius Institute Headquarters Beijing, talked about “Difficulties and strategies in adult Chinese learning”, based on her experience in teaching adult students at ASCC.
Vice-Principal Dr Xiaomei Ma organised the TQI accredited teachers professional learning sessions on “Enhancing Chinese Teaching and Learning with Technology”. She facilitated the learning session on blended learning and technologies as teaching and learning tools. She also talked about ASCC’s G Suite for Education, and encouraged teachers to use Google Classroom, Google Drive, and Google site, and invited TQI registered Ms Ying Zhang to demonstrate her use of new technologies in Chinese teaching, sharing her experiences.
Teacher training is a tradition and practice of ASCC. In addition to teachers ongoing learning and training, the school organizes teacher conferences and training regularly at the beginning and middle of every school year.
